About Us (Inspiration 418 Trust)

Inspiration 418 Trust is a Christian, voluntary organisation, which has worked with Bulabakuklu Orphanage since 2006. Our founder Monique Johnstone was invited by the Ugandan Child Development Fund (UCDF) and Pastor Joshua Magezi, the founder and director of the Orphanage, in 2006, to visit Bulabakulu Orphanage. The UCDF were already supporting an Orphanage called The Fold in Kampala, Uganda’s capital. They were helping Bulabakulu Orphanage where they could, but the need was far greater than imagined and they had to be careful not to take on more than they could manage in addition to the Fold.

During this visit to Bulakabulu, Monique saw there was only enough food for the children to be fed once every 3 days. Inspiration 418 Trust has since made it possible for the children to eat 3 times a day, every day. But food prices in Uganda have tripled in the last 12 months and we now need to raise more money than ever to feed the children at Bulabakulu orphanage. We are currently able to fund a basic diet of porridge for breakfast and Posho (maize and beans) for lunch and the same for the evening meal. We aim to make meat, eggs, fish, fruit and vegetables a regular part of the children’s diet. Eating regular meals means these children are more able to: study at school, take vocational courses, tend to crops, sing, praise, and be happy, healthy children and young people. In a country where 42 years is the average life expectancy, food and nutrition is one of the keys to helping people stay healthy and live longer.

Since 2006, we have been raising funds through events like the Big Breakfast and kind donations and have seen God provide in amazing ways. We annually visit the Orphanage to monitor progress and experience life there first hand. All our trips and costs whilst there, are self funded.

We are a volantary organisation, 100% of your donation goes to help the children at Bulabakulu Orphanage.

Achievements

In addition to the food and nutrition programme, on our last visit in Aug/Sept 09 we wanted to bless the children with a little extra, we:

- Supplied kitchen equipment.

- Provided occasional meat, fish, eggs and fruit with standard meals.

- Built a fire wood store.

- Purchased much needed medicines

- paracetamol
- worming tablets
- cough & cold remedies

- plasters
- bandages
- antihistamine
- rehydration salts
- antiseptics

- Organised days trips out for the children and their carers, many of whom rarely leave the orphanage.

- Purchased a Towel for each child.

- Supplied 2 new sewing machines with materials and patterns for the older children and widows.

- Donated school equipment (Exercise books, pencils, calculators, geometry sets).

Future Plans

With God’s Grace and the right funding, we hope to develop an area of the orphanage grounds into a small holding, a place where children can learn to grow and tend to vegetables and crops. This will create a supplementary and sustainable food source. We want to work with the Orphanage to help it become self sufficient with fruit and vegetables, but first, the children, young people and widows must be healthy enough to tend to crops. They need: long term guidance from a Ugandan national who has expertise in cultivation in such a challenging and changing environment, the right equipment and support, then we at Inspiration 418 Trust will be praying for the weather!
